Belize plans & Yogurt x2

I had two great yogurt experiences today. The first one was when I finally tried the new Pineapple flavored Chobani that everyone has been raving about. I ate it without cereal or toppings to truly experience it – Loved it ๐Ÿ™‚DSCN1397

A bit later I was going to eat this bar, but it was just okay so I stopped after this piece.DSCN1398

When I got home I was hungry, but didn’t want to ruin dinner. I decided an apple would put something in my stomach without making me full. I also grabbed a few of Ben’s Pringles – oops.DSCN1406

We didn’t have many options for dinner since I wanted to use up what we had on hand so dinner was random. I had salad, half a sweet potato that wouldn’t have lasted until we got back and a pita pizza. Our dinner plates are HUGE!DSCN1399

After dinner I was full, but I have had frozen yogurt on my mind all week! I saw the Yogiberry booth at the mall yesterday, but they are “Cash Only” right now and I didn’t have any cash ๐Ÿ˜ฆ So, I fully intended to get some frozen yogurt tonight. It was not necessary given my big dinner, but at least now it’s out of my mind. I think that is an unhealthy mindset, and I should work on having to get my hands on a certain food just because I’m craving it.DSCN1405

Belize & a Healthy Lifestyle!

I do try to maintain a healthy lifestyle while traveling. For me this means exercising when I can and trying to eat a balanced diet. This is not always possible, but I do my best.

Exercise on the trip – My goal during this trip is to get in 2 short runsย  and a lot of swimming and hiking. The runs will have to be during the first half of our trip while we are near the ocean, I don’t want to run in the rain forest and become jaguar bait!

Eating on the tripI am going to enjoy the foods available and try to make healthy choices 80% of the time with full permission to eat “fun stuff” the other 20%. This is actually what I aim for in my day to day eats too!

I went to Europe while in college (when I had a problem with disordered eating/thinking) and brought a ton of protein bars so I wouldn’t have to eat the food and risk gaining weight. I was so proud of myself at the time for being so “healthy”. When I mentioned this to the R.D. she said something to the effect of, “Thatย  is so sad for you. Wait, let’s think about that for a second and just realize that you missed out on a life experience because of dieting.” Noted.

I am going to enjoy local foods and drinks in moderation. I am going to enjoy my vacation, my honeymoon – but I’m not going to let all hell break loose either. I hope to stay true to my 80/20 healthy lifestyle on this trip and continue back home ๐Ÿ™‚

We are mid-packing for Belize. Ben and I are notorious for waiting until the last minute to get things done. It’s bad that neither one of us takes the initiative to get this stuff done early – oh well.

I have some fun guest posts lined up for while I am gone. I hope to be able to log on once or twice to say “Hi”, but other than that I’ll save the full recap for when I get home September 12th!

I am off on a plane for Belize in 6 hours! AHHHHHHH!!!!

Things I want to post, but can’t…

Sometimes time there are things I want to post about but can’t because certain people read this blog (family, co-workers) and I should be respectable. Damn. Today I said something to Ben that I want to post, but can’t…Let’s just say I went to a salon place to get something done because I’m going to be in a swimsuit this weekend…

“I can’t believe I pay someone to get that close to my vagina, shouldn’t someone be paying me?”

I’m glad I stuck to my convictions and didn’t post it. I am a lady.

Since I was at the mall during dinner time I was dying with all the delicious food smells all around me! I got a diet Coke from McDonald’s to help holdย  me off (they are $1.00 for any size!).

Ben came to pick me up after I was done and I didn’t know what I was going to feed him for dinner, plus I really was craving fries! So, I suggested that he get something from the food court for dinner (so I could eat his fries) and he took the bait! We also got a Peach Milkshake to share. I’m lucky that often Ben will eat most of certain indulgent foods, but I still get to enjoy it too.peach

I wanted fries and I ate them. Fries are off the Forbidden Food list! I ate more than I probably should, but this is my first time truly letting myself eat fries without guilt, so I learned from it. I should have been more aware as I was eating them and stopped when they didn’t taste as good or I had my fill.DSCN1374

I made myself a salad in a hummus container (it was almost empty) to use as dressing = Same idea as the Oatmeal in PB jar. And rice and beans.DSCN1376

Despite the high cal dinner, I wanted something sweet andย  piece of dark chocolate did the trick ๐Ÿ™‚ DSCN1378I was talking to my BFF (word up lady) last night about losing weight and had a “light bulb moment”. I’m gonna post about it tomorrow, so stay tuned ๐Ÿ™‚

No Cold Condiments

Today I totally ate what I wanted and it made me happy ๐Ÿ™‚ My lunch was a big salad bar feast and dinner was simple, but the best!

I made a veggie wrap with my new favorite veggie burgers. I put a random carrot on the side for kicks.DSCN1359

My condiments of choice for this meal ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t keep these in the fridge because I hate when condiments make your food cold! I don’t care what it says on the bottle – I live dangerously.DSCN1361

I also ate a FiberOne bar after this since I felt snacky.DSCN1364

Dessert is on the menu – I broke up 2 ice cream bars (100 calories each) and topped them with apple chips and Yogi Crisps…happiness is eating ice cream while watching trashy TV ๐Ÿ™‚DSCN1363

Since I ditched my lunch for today I don’t have to make lunch right now!

My Food Find of the day is Yogi Crisps. These were in the “healthy/organic/expensive” cereal section of the store. I was expecting granola, but this was more like cereal.DSCN1350

These are a lot like corn flakes, but thicker. They have granola pieces stuck to them, but it’s not granola. My search for the perfect granola that isn’t 200 calories for a half a cup continues…does it exist???DSCN1356I had a few handfuls of that with an apple and seltzer for an afternoon snack. DSCN1357Why do I watch Top Chef? It just makes me hungry….

My life sounds interesting…

Today at the doctor’s office my life must have sounded interesting, or at least crazy, when I had to explain the following:

– Sorry, I am late and sweaty because I walked here since my car is in California.

– I don’t have any of my medical records, as they are in California, but I swear I got the first shot for Hep B – you can take my word for it. I also need Zoloft – just kidding. (She didn’t think that was funny.)

– I need anti-malarials since I’m going to Belize on Saturday.

–ย  And I need BC since the Belize trip is my honeymoon and without that there’s no point in going…

Well, one shot and some prescriptions later I am ready for Belize!!!

When I got home I was hungry. Since I didn’t have an afternoon snack and dinner wasn’t for another 3 hours I thought I could break my 30 minute kitchen wait rule and eat. I finally wanted yogurt and cereal.DSCN1327

Yesterday all I wanted for dinner was Rice and Beans, but the beans took to long and I made a Plan B dinner. So, tonight I used those beans with some brown rice for a super simple meal. DSCN1334

I wanted dessert and since the last 2 chocolate chip cookies were calling my name I went for it. Did I tell you that when I made these I used half the amount of butter and the rest a mashed banana. So, they totally taste like banana chocolate chip ๐Ÿ™‚ I like it, but Ben didn’t so I ended up eating the whole batch myself. DSCN1335

I need a good traveler coffee mug since it’s getting chilly here and that means tea time! I’m thinking a Target stop is in order tomorrow.

I wish I could tell you guys that I was successful at not eating while cooking, but that would be a lie. We all know that RER is not perfect, but at least she doesn’t lie. (Yes, I’m talking about myself as RER in the third person, sue me.)ย  I need to stick with the plan! Gum while cooking, not eat anything unless it’s on a plate, get out of the kitchen unless I am cooking/cleaning.

and yogurt with frozen cherries (now thawed, duh) and cereal. It wasn’t good, but I thought I needed some protien and dairy in my life.DSCN1309

I really wanted Beans and Rice for dinner, but beans from scratch was going to take too long and that’s all we had. I went with tomorrow’s dinner – Spaghetti with Veggie Meatballs.DSCN1316

TJ’s veggie meatballs are okay. They get dry in the micro & aren’t that flavorful. I probably wouldn’t get them again.DSCN1311

For dessert with dinner – wine. I needed this. Wine makes my neck and back muscles hurt because that’s where I keep all my stress. When I drink and start to relax it hurts! Does that happen to anyone else?DSCN1318

On the IE front –ย  My slip-up today is super frustrating because I am reading the book and I want to succeed – I just am not disciplining myself to do it!

Oh, and there is a dead raccoon on my favorite running route. He is dead in the gutter and I have to run by him 2 times every time I run this way. I am sorry he is dead, but someone really needs to clean it up. The smell as I run by makes me gag. Sick. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Fruity & Ruby

After a big, late lunch all I wanted for dinner was fruit! I cut up an apple, 2 kiwis and some watermelon. DSCN1285

On the side I had a piece of cheese toast – this is one of my favorite savory things to eat. Normally I’m a sweets girl all the way.DSCN1286

I have been having a very hard time randomly snacking whenever I’m in the kitchen and the way I’ve decided to stop this is to

1. Chew gum while I’m cooking dinner.

2. If I leave room for dessert – choose 1 thing to eat after dinner and not eat anything else while making lunches.

3.ย  After I’m done – brush my teeth. Turn off the kitchen lights.

I made a big bag of trail-mix tonight too. I love this stuff.DSCN1288

Now I’m watching Ruby. I love this show and think she’s super cute and inspirational!

But, is it sad that I’m eating ice cream while watching her show (about her struggle with weight-loss)? I feel guilty…DSCN1289Tomorrow I’m up early for a run! See you then!

Push-ups Challenge

Ben and I saw Julie and Julia last night. I liked it! I normally only like trashy comedies like The Hangover and the timeless classics like Tommy Boy. But, we both really enjoyed it. Maybe it was because I saw some of myself in Julie? And it made Ben happy to know that I am “normal for a blogger” and he’s not the only husband who has a blogger wife ๐Ÿ™‚

We started the date with Thai food. I ate a bunch of watermelon before we left so I didn’t think I was hungry, but I ended up eating a lot! Ben got a some interesting curry with shrimp and avocado.DSCN1265

I ordered a side of spicy veggies since I haven’t been eating enough lately! This was a rip-off for $10.00. Not worth it.DSCN1266

I also got Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimp. This is totally not something I would normally order since it’s fried and just a big bowl of white rice, but it’s what I wanted. I am really trying to listen to what my body is craving and ignore the Food Police, but it’s hard. And this ended up being a bad pick because I wasn’t full after eating this?! WTF.DSCN1269DSCN1271

After the movie I wanted ice cream, but everything was closed. So, I went back home to raid our fridge. I had ice cream with granola and 2 chocolate chip cookies – this was not necessary but it happens.DSCN1272

Push-ups Challenge

This morning I did the initial test for the 100 Push-ups Challenge**, 100 Squats Challenge and 100 Sit-ups Challenge.

Today I was just supposed to see how many of each I could do and what category I should start the exercises in. I fell into the “suck” category. But, in six weeks I should be able to do 100 push-ups! **I am doing Girl-Style push-ups because I have a vagine (va-zheen).And because I’m lazy with strength training, so this is already asking a lot.

Ben and I are doing the Challenge together for the next six weeks. I’ll update ya as we go!
