Time for a makeover!

I’m getting a makeover! Well, not me, but the blog is getting a makeover – and it may be down for a bit after 7pmEST tonight. Hope you give the new look a thumbs up!IMG_0827Actually, I would like a real makeover – I’ve always wanted to go blond.

I packed something other than PB&J for lunch again today! This is a very tasty and fun challenge πŸ™‚ I’m not making anything “new”, but it’s good to get back to some old favorites.

I made a HUGE salad with tons of veggies and beans for protein. I used my favorite TJ’s Peanut Dressing too.IMG_1011

IMG_1010I also had some Kashi crackers and 2 seltzers with lunch. I may or may not have had another seltzer later. I am an addict.IMG_1043

For dessert – 2 of my chocolate chip cookies πŸ™‚ Dessert with lunch is so fun! But, these have to be microwaved to taste best the next day.IMG_1047

I brought a lot of fruit to snacks today – kiwi and grapes. I love fruit! I ate some more Kashis since fruit doesn’t keep me full for long.DSCN2054

Time for Dinner!

After a few cold dinners on the table Ben and I have declared 7pm Dinner Time. This way he knows when he should be home and I know when I will be eating dinner and can plan my snacks accordingly. I am thinking between 3 and 4pm is the best time for my afternoon snack so I’m hungry for dinner. Do you have a dinner time? I never had one before, but we’re trying this whole shack-up marriage thing and we want to eat dinner together πŸ™‚ How cute.

In case you were wondering what I look like when I get home from work…I was trying to explain to friend that I look like I am coming home from a walk in the part – not work, when I get home. This is because I change out of nice, work clothes and put on walking clothes for my “commute” home πŸ™‚DSCN2025

My afternoon snack was supposed to be this…but I ended up ditching the yogurt for a KashiΒ  bar. It was good, but the yogurt would have been better πŸ™‚IMG_0996

I also had some of these True North Nut Clusters. The company sent me over some samples of their goodies and this was the first one I opened. I have to say that they are delicious! And I sent some in Ben’s lunch last week and he came home asking about them, saying that he loved them! Two good reviews in one and we haven’t even tried the other samples πŸ™‚DSCN2035

My only hesitation with buying theseΒ  is that 5 clusters is a serving size. It’s hard for me to stop at 5! But if you pack them in your lunch it’s perfect. You get to enjoy the clusters and have portion control πŸ™‚DSCN2039

Dinner was leftovers from Indian food on Saturday…DSCN2033

And I really really wanted dessert so I had a handful of chocolate chips before deciding to make cinnamon toast with chocolate chips! DSCN2044A little later IΒ  was craving hot chocolate and Ben reminded me that we bought chocolate in Guatemala that turned out to be for makingΒ  (Mexican) Hot Chocolate! Have you ever had Abuelita? The best hot chocolate ever. You break off pieces of the chocolate bar and mix it with milk. DSCN2046

It is seasoned with cinnamon and other spices – it reminds me of my Aunt Martha since I rememeber her making this for me and my cousins πŸ™‚DSCN2047Someone asked about the ingredients of my precious Pumpkin Butter…here are the stats…DSCN2041Cut the Crap – I have gotten a lot of emails about how my Cut the Crap Month seems to be hurting my Intuitive Eating. After much thought, I agree. As soon as I said I am not going to eat something my instinct is to eat it! It’s very frustrating, but years of restricting/binging has completely screwed up my head and body.

I feel like it is a complete cop out to say I am stopping my efforts to Cut the Crap 😦 So, I am going to continue to make an effort to eat foods that make me feel good and fuel me well! But, I am not going to restrict myself to x number of treats a week.

My small goals each week are building on eachother am I’m doing well with those so I’m going to continue

1. Not eating for 30 minutes after I get home

2. Brushing my teeth after dinner/dessert and closing the kitchen

Belize plans & Yogurt x2

I had two great yogurt experiences today. The first one was when I finally tried the new Pineapple flavored Chobani that everyone has been raving about. I ate it without cereal or toppings to truly experience it – Loved it πŸ™‚DSCN1397

A bit later I was going to eat this bar, but it was just okay so I stopped after this piece.DSCN1398

When I got home I was hungry, but didn’t want to ruin dinner. I decided an apple would put something in my stomach without making me full. I also grabbed a few of Ben’s Pringles – oops.DSCN1406

We didn’t have many options for dinner since I wanted to use up what we had on hand so dinner was random. I had salad, half a sweet potato that wouldn’t have lasted until we got back and a pita pizza. Our dinner plates are HUGE!DSCN1399

After dinner I was full, but I have had frozen yogurt on my mind all week! I saw the Yogiberry booth at the mall yesterday, but they are “Cash Only” right now and I didn’t have any cash 😦 So, I fully intended to get some frozen yogurt tonight. It was not necessary given my big dinner, but at least now it’s out of my mind. I think that is an unhealthy mindset, and I should work on having to get my hands on a certain food just because I’m craving it.DSCN1405

Belize & a Healthy Lifestyle!

I do try to maintain a healthy lifestyle while traveling. For me this means exercising when I can and trying to eat a balanced diet. This is not always possible, but I do my best.

Exercise on the trip – My goal during this trip is to get in 2 short runsΒ  and a lot of swimming and hiking. The runs will have to be during the first half of our trip while we are near the ocean, I don’t want to run in the rain forest and become jaguar bait!

Eating on the tripI am going to enjoy the foods available and try to make healthy choices 80% of the time with full permission to eat “fun stuff” the other 20%. This is actually what I aim for in my day to day eats too!

I went to Europe while in college (when I had a problem with disordered eating/thinking) and brought a ton of protein bars so I wouldn’t have to eat the food and risk gaining weight. I was so proud of myself at the time for being so “healthy”. When I mentioned this to the R.D. she said something to the effect of, “ThatΒ  is so sad for you. Wait, let’s think about that for a second and just realize that you missed out on a life experience because of dieting.” Noted.

I am going to enjoy local foods and drinks in moderation. I am going to enjoy my vacation, my honeymoon – but I’m not going to let all hell break loose either. I hope to stay true to my 80/20 healthy lifestyle on this trip and continue back home πŸ™‚

We are mid-packing for Belize. Ben and I are notorious for waiting until the last minute to get things done. It’s bad that neither one of us takes the initiative to get this stuff done early – oh well.

I have some fun guest posts lined up for while I am gone. I hope to be able to log on once or twice to say “Hi”, but other than that I’ll save the full recap for when I get home September 12th!

I am off on a plane for Belize in 6 hours! AHHHHHHH!!!!

No Cold Condiments

Today I totally ate what I wanted and it made me happy πŸ™‚ My lunch was a big salad bar feast and dinner was simple, but the best!

I made a veggie wrap with my new favorite veggie burgers. I put a random carrot on the side for kicks.DSCN1359

My condiments of choice for this meal πŸ™‚ I don’t keep these in the fridge because I hate when condiments make your food cold! I don’t care what it says on the bottle – I live dangerously.DSCN1361

I also ate a FiberOne bar after this since I felt snacky.DSCN1364

Dessert is on the menu – I broke up 2 ice cream bars (100 calories each) and topped them with apple chips and Yogi Crisps…happiness is eating ice cream while watching trashy TV πŸ™‚DSCN1363

Since I ditched my lunch for today I don’t have to make lunch right now!

My Food Find of the day is Yogi Crisps. These were in the “healthy/organic/expensive” cereal section of the store. I was expecting granola, but this was more like cereal.DSCN1350

These are a lot like corn flakes, but thicker. They have granola pieces stuck to them, but it’s not granola. My search for the perfect granola that isn’t 200 calories for a half a cup continues…does it exist???DSCN1356I had a few handfuls of that with an apple and seltzer for an afternoon snack. DSCN1357Why do I watch Top Chef? It just makes me hungry….

My life sounds interesting…

Today at the doctor’s office my life must have sounded interesting, or at least crazy, when I had to explain the following:

– Sorry, I am late and sweaty because I walked here since my car is in California.

– I don’t have any of my medical records, as they are in California, but I swear I got the first shot for Hep B – you can take my word for it. I also need Zoloft – just kidding. (She didn’t think that was funny.)

– I need anti-malarials since I’m going to Belize on Saturday.

–Β  And I need BC since the Belize trip is my honeymoon and without that there’s no point in going…

Well, one shot and some prescriptions later I am ready for Belize!!!

When I got home I was hungry. Since I didn’t have an afternoon snack and dinner wasn’t for another 3 hours I thought I could break my 30 minute kitchen wait rule and eat. I finally wanted yogurt and cereal.DSCN1327

Yesterday all I wanted for dinner was Rice and Beans, but the beans took to long and I made a Plan B dinner. So, tonight I used those beans with some brown rice for a super simple meal. DSCN1334

I wanted dessert and since the last 2 chocolate chip cookies were calling my name I went for it. Did I tell you that when I made these I used half the amount of butter and the rest a mashed banana. So, they totally taste like banana chocolate chip πŸ™‚ I like it, but Ben didn’t so I ended up eating the whole batch myself. DSCN1335

I need a good traveler coffee mug since it’s getting chilly here and that means tea time! I’m thinking a Target stop is in order tomorrow.

Pick a treat

I have a lot of things to do, but I would rather mess around. I need to get on task!

When I got home I had random bites of leftovers when I decided to plate a meal. I had sweet potato “fries” and a big salad with hummus.DSCN1178

After dinner I couldn’t decide what I wanted to have a for a treat. I made Raw Choc-Oat Cookies – love these!DSCN1180

But, while they were hardening in the fridge I ate a few random sandwich cookies and choc covered pretzels. I need to pick ONE treat and stick with it! I don’t need all those snacks.

I Love Rotta Wine

***This post is from Friday – for some reason it never got published. I’m just posting this for tonight because I’m having computer problems – must be all that porn I’ve been looking at…***

I got home and did my new “30 minute wait” before eating and it totally worked. I bet the chocolate chip muffin helped keep me from being hungry πŸ™‚

I made Pita Pizzas for dinner. I love these. They are so easy and I love pizza. I used to go light on the cheese, but then I felt like I was getting ripped of, I mean c’mon I’m already cutting cals with pita bread instead of dough right? Broccoli in the microwave on the side πŸ™‚DSCN1075

I made Ben BBQ Chicken pizza – he loved it. I love when I make something super simple and he’s impressed with it.

We also enjoyed some light and fruity Muscat Canelli from our favorite winery in Paso Robles, CA – Rotta Winery. Ben and I were wine club members and would drive up to Paso every couple of months for our shipment. I love this place and drinking this wine brought back memories of good times πŸ™‚DSCN1082

I wanted to avoid dessert since I already had a chocolate chip muffin earlier, but I couldn’t (or I could, but I didn’t want to?). I had some of these “let’s make a fruit bad for you by frying it and coating it with sugar” apple chips.DSCN1084
