FAT Tuesday!

Happy Fat Tuesday! I am excited because I have a co-worker/friend from New Orleans (she came out to CA after Katrina) and she ordered King Cake from a local bakery for everyone in the office. I have never tried it and didn’t even know about it until last year when NPR did a story on it 🙂

Here’s what Wiki says about it:

A king cake (sometimes rendered as kingcake, kings’ cake, king’s cake, or three kings cake) is a type of cake associated with the festival of Epiphany in the Christmas season in a number of countries, and in other places with Mardi Gras and Carnival. It is popular in Christmas season in France, Belgium and Switzerland (galette/gâteau des Rois), Portugal (Bolo Rei), Spain (Roscón de Reyes and in Catalonia called tortell), Greece and Cyprus (vasilopita) and Bulgaria (banitsa). In the United States, which celebrates Carnival ranging from Pensacola, Florida to East Texas, centered on New Orleansit is associated instead with Mardi Gras season traditions.

The cakes have a small trinket (often a small plastic baby, sometimes said to represent Baby Jesus) inside, and the person who gets the piece of cake with the trinket has various privileges and obligations.

This will be my last hurrah before Ash Wednesday tomorrow. I am giving up sweets and meats. This is going to be the hardest Lent in a long time! I remember when I was a kid I gave up candy and right after Ash Wed. we started our chocolate bar sale that lasted for weeks! The entire school and my house smelled like chocolate (which is obviously my fave!). It was torture. I froze a bunch of chocolate bars and ate them for months after Lent was over.

I am going to try and restrain myself from gorging on dark chocolate today and take it like a lady. No promises though 🙂

When it rains

Did I tell you guys I got a ticket at the Surf City Race expo last month? It is for 42 freakin’ dollars! On top of that I have some medical bills that are adding up! Hello, I have a wedding to pay for. When it rains it pours! It just feels like I am hemorrhaging  money right now! dscn6029dscn60271dscn6026dscn6030Grrr. Here are my eats from Monday. I didn’t look at my 21 day challenge to plan out my day and it ended bad 😦 I don’t want to be super controlling of my day, but at the same time I have learned from last week that planning my meals does help when I go to the store (& saves money!) and helps when I get home after a long day. By the way, the Lean Cuisine Mac n’ Cheese is super gross and I was hungry 10 minutes later & for the rest of the afternoon – hence eating 2 Kashi roll bars yesterday (only 1 is pictured)! There are other random snacks that are missing too. From now on nothing goes in my mouth without a pic so help me…


Bridal Fashion Show!!!

After many requests for a sneak peek of wedding dresses I’ve decided to go for it and share a few of the dresses I’ve tried on! I have made Ben promise that he will not look at the site so he won’t see me. I don’t plan on getting any of these dresses, but you never know if there is a disaster with my dress and I have to quickly buy off the rack or something!

At this point I have been to about 7 dress shops – these are some random picks from the ones I’ve tried on. I was willing to try any style on at first because I didn’t want to rule anything out until I tried it.

To run or not to run…

After 11 miles on Saturday morning I was soooo hungry – I got used to eating before my long runs and was super hungry and thirsty by mile 8! I have a usual water fountain I stop at if I don’t have my fuel belt and it was broken 😦 I need a better fuel belt since I don’t like the one I have now.

Next Race : I was considering running another full marathon in May. I am on the fence about it for few reasons:

1. 2 of my toenails (not including my already blue one!) are no longer going to be with us soon from my first mary Feb. 1st. I don’t want to mess up my toe nails right before the wedding in June.

2. Training on the weekends takes up a lot of time & I have a wedding to plan!

3. I kinda want to focus on making my half marathon time better.

4. I’m trying to lose weight and it is hard to cut back on food when you’re running so much.

Hmmm, my decision will be made this week.

Anyways, since the kitchen is still out of commission breakfast was a big bowl of cereal with almonds, raisins and choc chips from my Kashi Trail mix…dscn5928

I met my BFF (who lives in Palm Springs) at a mall for some wedding dress shopping and girl time. First thing we did when we met was eat! I was hungry. I had mahi-mahi with rice and veggies from some random mall food court place.dscn5933

Ben and I went out for Mexican food & since it was Saturday I decided to live it up and order a margydscn59571

I ordered a fish burrito on ww tortilla – I love their wet burritos!


Plus I got to get Yogurt Land since it was my “Sweets on Saturdays” day where I can have the dessert of my choice 🙂dscn5961 I got crazy with the toppings!!!

Day 2 – More lessons

On Day 2 of my personal challenge I learned even more, like:

1. Stop fucking eating chocolate after lunch

2. Don’t eat paper ( more on that to come)

I started the day with my OG oatmeal. I just love this breakfast and it keeps me super full for a long time, if it ain’t broke right?dscn5912

I am thinking about giving up sweets for Lent and it has been killing me. I seriously think I have an addiction to sugar becuase since I made the decision I have become a fiend for chocolate and sweets! I decided to make some healthy oatmeal cookies for Ben and I. They were just okay.dscn5919

Before the cookie baking my afternoon snack was greek yogurt with granola and cereal. I definately use cereal as a sweet treat too, I think I may have to give that up too for the sake of honesty. Damn. dscn5917

I got this runner’s log book at a bookstore this week. I used to keep a super strict food diary and that’s why it’s hard for my to keep written track of everything I eat, but I don’t know if I will have the same problem with a running log. I’m going to try it out. dscn5921

The kitchen at Ben’s is still under construction so we had to either throw a bunch of random foods together or go out. I didn’t want to go out since we would probably eat out tomorrow. So, we got out a bunch of sandwich ingredients, chips, crackers and cheeses. It’s like we are living in a college dorm room…


I tried to be civilized and construct a sandwich and then stick it in the micro for a minute to melt. We have the toaster plugged in in the bathroom and the micro plugged in in the living room – we’re classy like that. dscn5924


Well, it turns out I didn’t take the paper off the cheese slice and since I micro-ed it to melty goodness, I didn’t realize the paper was still on there. Yep. I ate the paper and only realized when  bit of it was sticking out of my already mostly eaten sandwich. Here is Ben laughing hysterically and holding up the remaining bits of eaten paper. Wedding Shows

I’m watching Who’s Wedding Is It Anyway? right now. I love it 🙂 

I also love Say Yes To The Dress (but don’t get to watch it that often because my home TV doesn’t get that channel)

I have soooo much to do for the wedding, it’s very overwhelming! This weekend I am going to make a decision on bridesmaid dresses and I am on the hunt for a cake design 🙂 For some reason the bridal mags don’t have a lot of pictures of cakes, so it’s hard to get inspiration.

Day 2

Day 2 tips – Write it down, basically make a food journal to keep track of what you’re eating. This is really hard for me to do because it just reminds me of my super restriction days and I can’t help but rebel and want to act out threw a binge. I may give it a whirl, but I’m not sure.
