I just dropped a BIG soup can on my big toe. I hurts unbelievably bad and I don’t know what to do. It happened over 30 minutes ago and I am still in major pain. The nail turned blue almost immediately, but I don’t even care about that. I have ice on it right now.

How can I tell if I broke it?

  1. you’d have to get an xray. usually they don’t do anything for broken toes. but if it’s really bothering you i would actually get it checked just to know, cuz you would prolly be BEST staying off it for as long as possible, til you have to run (marathon)…

  2. RICE it!

Try that for a while and see how you feel.

  3. alright girl I have done the same thing you will lose the toe nail but it will grow back, if you broke it there is not much you can do about it, but ICE!!!

  4. Ice is good. If you break a toe you will know it. I once stubbed my little toe on the bathroom door in the middle of the night (I didn’t know it was closed). When I woke up the next morning the sheet laying on my toe hurt..

  5. I’ve got to say, your toenails look really nice for the wintertime! Hope you feel better! Congrats on your engagement!

  6. I’ve broken my toe before, and pretty much it just hurts like a B**** But to be honest, there isn’t much you can do for it. Just tape it to the other toe with sports tape, and ice it 2 x daily for 15 minutes. I’ve competed in gymnastics with broken toes, so running should be fine. Good luck and hope your marathon goes amazingly. I’m sure you’ll kick ass. My marathon is in April, and my training has been going, blah….

  7. […] My blue toe is still tragically blue (actually it got a lot worse) and now my middle toe nail has turned a sad shade of black and will not be with us for much longer. The middle toe on my other foot will abandon ship soon too. This is what happens when you run 26.2 miles. Apparently, it’s not such a good idea if you want to have decent looking feet. Noted. […]

  8. […] I normally don’t have problems with black toe nails. My recent toe nail tragedy is because of the marathon Feb 2nd – and it barely fell off last Sunday!!! (I do still have that big blue one from my can dropping accident.) […]
