RUN 11/29/2008

I ran 16.75 miles today. I was supposed to run 17, but I’m lucky I made it that far. I was psyching myself out the whole run. From the very beginning I was telling myself that my legs felt tired, that maybe I should just do 14 today and increase my mileage next week, that I could just run as far as I wanted and call the BF to come pick me up. I just wasn’t excited about the run this morning and saw it as a chore. I just didn’t have as much energy as I did on last week’s run. I don’t know why that is, but I have to figure it out because my runs are just going to get longer and more difficult. I ate good last night so I don’t think it’s that. I went to bed at a decent time.  The only thing I can think is that I wasn’t hydrated enough – which can also help explain why I was so hungry today.

After the 16.75 I was still about 1 mile away from home, so I walked it to cool down. So, I was definitely out for more than 17 miles at least.

Note: I take small walk breaks when I drink from my water bottle so I don’t choke. I also had 2 of these little chewy fuel things that I got at the Long Beach (Half) Marathon Expo – but that is just a sample pack so it only had 2 chews in there and I need more than that. I just feel that I should let you know that I take a couple of small walk breaks on my long runs to drink up. I walk through aid stations during races too for this same reason. I would rather make sure I am getting a good drink of water than be coughing the next mile!
