Skirting the skirt

I don’t own a running skirt. I have always thought they would be uncomfortable, “ride up” or emphasize how manly I look while running. I thought people would say, “Why is that sweaty guy wearing a skirt?” But, I really like wearing skirts and dresses in my daily life. On mornings when I am going to run I wake up and pull on my dingy “white” technical running shirt and sweat wicking shorts with the built in undies. These clothes have been good to me. They do their job and keep me from getting rashes or chafing. They also don’t ride up or bunch up in places they are not supposed to. I love my running clothes, and I have a lot. I have a whole drawer dedicated to running clothes. This is important to my life. When I come back drenched in sweat from a good run I take a shower and very often I put on a skirt or dress. I think it looks “nicer”than my black pants and it covers and doesn’t accentuate my ass, which no matter how much I run will remain a dookie booty. But, why if I am completely comfortable in skirts every other time, can’t I run in a skirt? Hmmm. Maybe I can.

There is an article on Runner’s World today about how popular skirts are for female runners. I don’t know, I kind of like the idea of a running skirt. I’m actually thinking about getting one if, after close examination in a fitting room, it passes the “ride up” test of course.

What do you think? Running skirt – good idea or bad?

Kashi Honey Sunshine

I finally tracked Kashi’s new cereal down! It’s called Honey Sunshine. The appearance of the cereal resembles a sugary old timer: Captain Crunch. The main difference between Kashi’s new cereal and Captain Crunch is the nutrition info. Kashi’s cereal is made with whole grains, there are NO artificial sweeteners and it is 6g sugar per serving. A 3/4c serving of Honey Sunshine has 100 cals, 1.5g fat, 6g fiber, 6g sugar and 2g protein. I do still consider this a “sweet” cereal more than an everyday staple. But, the fiber and calorie counts are very impressive. The cereal is sweet and crunchy without being too sweet. The flavors taste natural and eating it with milk brings out the sweetness of the small cereal pillows. I actually like to eat this cereal plain or with milk.

Today I love … Watermelon

Happy Tuesday! This morning started with a 7 mile run. Some guy was trying to pass me and finally got right next to me and said, “You don’t make it easy to pass.” That made my day and my run! Run like an animal!

I could not decide on breakfast today. I really wanted muesli and put some oats to soak before I went for my run, but I didn’t have anything good to mix with them – no fruit, nuts or anything! So, I ditched that idea and made cold cereal. I mixed Kashi, Ezekiel and Wheat Puffs with almond milk. I really love the way almond milk tastes, but I’ve been trying to stay away from it so I get some protein from milk in the morning. This is my last container of it, I have to decide if I will buy any more.
I had about 16 pounds of watermelon when I got to work.
Have a great day, see you later 🙂

Monday Recap

Lunch Monday was a Asian Chicken salad, but I lost the picture – so here is a replay from dinner on Saturday. It didn’t look this nice in my Tupperware at work.I also had a lot of cherries on the side. Okay I know I keep saying it, but this might be the last of the cherries of the season. Maybe, these are super sweet and delicious. I think I got a bad batch last time and spoke too soon. Even though I had super sweet cherries with lunch I still wanted something else sweet so I had a few pieces of dried mango. This stuff is better than candy!I had a yogurt mixed with high fiber cereal for an afternoon snack. I don’t think I was hungry, but just doing it out of habit. This is something I’m working on, but it’s a process. Rice Krispie Treats! I made these for work and handed them out in the afternoon. I made them with Choco-nilla Rice Krispies which is why they are colored this way. They turned out great! Unfortunately though, this cereal has High Fructose Corn Syrup, one of my big no-nos, but I didn’t have time to make anything more complicated.

Of course I ate one!
Dinner started with some broccoli for the veggie requirement…
I had a veggie burger and a ww english muffin for the main course. I did eat both halves of the muffin, at first I wasn’t going to so I only pictured half – but it was so good I went back for the other half!
Dessert – I popped a bag of Smart Pop Kettle Corn, but my apartment microwave is weak, so it only popped about 2 cups of the stuff.
I also had a VitaTop 🙂 Oh no! I am almost out and told myself I wasn’t going to buy more because they are so expensive. What will I do for a sweet nighttime treat?!

Today I love … being back in action

Hello Everyone! Sorry I’ve been so bad about posting last week. I am back on track and a posting machine. I have so much to catch up on! Also, since I was so stressed last week I learn a lot about myself and my eating. I was so busy in the mornings and afternoons for a couple of days that the normal times when I eat my snacks came and went and did not miss them at all.
I don’t think I am always hungry for my morning snack or afternoon snack, but it’s a habit or almost hobby that I have. I have trained myself to eat snacks at certain times and I eat them whether I am hungry or not. I am trying to get away from that and really listen to my body. I know I’ve mentioned that before, but it’s an on-going struggle. I successfully “skipped” a couple of snacks last week just because my hunger never kicked in and I was too busy to realize it was “snack time”.

Today I went for a 5.5m run – felt really good 🙂 Breakfast was oat bran with skim, naner and topped with brown sugar.
I also had about 3 cups of watermelon – some while cutting it and then some at work.
Have a great day! I have so much posting to catch up on. I will be back later 🙂

Highlights of stuff you’ve missed…

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a couple of days. Last week was very crazy and by crazy I mean bad. I was getting in trouble at work and was super stressed out. Let’s not forget I do not like my job one little bit, so to get in trouble constantly at a place you can’t stand anyways makes one want to either tell everyone to go F themselves or jump off a bridge. In order to prevent me from ending it all my amazing BF sent me flowers to work. These are “just because” flowers. I call them “Just because I have the world’s best BF flowers”. Seriously, how freakin’ lucky am I? I was extra happy because a while back I told him how much I love Star Gazers and he totally remembered and got my an arrangement with them. He’s always been a roses guy before this – which I love too, but this was so special since I just mentioned it in passing. I love how some of them were still opening up 🙂 Beautiful! Thanks BF!
Now for food highlights…
I got a Jamby with granola on top after a long run this weekend. Smoothies and granola together combine my 2 favorite things. I was pretty much in heaven…

I also ordered a Sourdough Parmesan Pretzel from Jamby to add to the experience. So good!
“Movie Theatre” Popcorn! I don’t get this very often – I know it’s super high in calories and fat. Normally I sneak in my own bag of popcorn. I actually love microwave popcorn. I eat full size bags of the 98% fat free stuff like there ain’t nothing wrong. But, a couple of times a year you have to say, “Fuck it” and get some buttery, artery clogging Movie Theatre Popcorn. Seriously, I suggest all of you do this once a year, maybe twice – but no more than that. I don’t want you all dying on me.

Peanut Butter Bumpers

I have tried Peanut Butter Bumpers in the past and liked them, but here’s a review for your reading pleasure…
This food find combines two of my favorite things: PB and cereal! It was on sale yesterday and I wanted a sweet cereal to mix with my healthy cereals so this seemed like a great choice. The cereal looks a little like Kix, but is lightly coated with Peanut Butter flavor so it is has a smoother texture and is sweeter. It is similar in taste to PB Puffins, but in a different shape.
The nutrition panel is okay for a “sugar” cereal. 1 cup serving – 130 calories, 2.5g fat, 1g fiber, 3g protein. I prefer my breakfast to have a lot of fiber and some protein to keep me full and start my day off right. So, this cereal is more like a treat than a breakfast staple – like PB Puffins.
Peanut Butter Bumpers would be great in a homemade trail mix, a topping for yogurt or ice cream or added to your morning cereal for a sweet kick.
